Introduction to EMDR
Sometimes insight alone is not enough to shift what the nervous system has learned through painful or overwhelming experiences.
EMDR is a trauma-informed approach that helps the brain and body process experiences that continue to feel emotionally charged in the present. My EMDR training was completed through an EMDRIA-approved program, and I am a member of EMDR Canada.
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic technique that uses bilateral stimulation, often through guided eye movements, to help the brain naturalize and store memories that have become stuck. It shifts the way your mind and body respond to trauma, moving toward a sense of resolution and calm.
Benefits of EMDR
Reducing the intense emotional distress associated with painful memories.
Emotional Relief
Easing the physical tension and reactivity that trauma often leaves behind.
Mind-Body Connection
Shifting negative self-beliefs toward a more grounded, self-compassionate outlook.
New Perspective
The EMDR Process
01
Safety & Preparation
We begin by building a foundation of trust and developing tools for regulation. We ensure you feel stabilized and ready before moving into deeper processing.
02
Desensitization
Using bilateral movements, we help your brain process the memory until the distress lowers. You remain fully present and awake throughout the entire session.
03
Installation & Integration
We work to strengthen positive beliefs and integrate the newly processed insights into your sense of self, helping you feel more whole and resilient.
Is EMDR Right for You?
EMDR is a powerful tool, but like any therapy, it is not a universal solution. It may be helpful if you find yourself reliving past events, feeling stuck in patterns of anxiety, or struggling with certain triggers. Together, we can explore your history and current needs to see if this approach resonates with your goals for healing.
If you are interested in EMDR, I invite you to reach out for a gentle, commitment-free consultation to see if we might be a good fit.
